The Benedictine abbey of Ettal was founded by the Emperor Ludwig of Bavaria in 1330. The monastery houses various craft workshops, such as the art typography, the distillery and the brewery. The latter boasts over 400 years of history and is one of the last examples of the ancient and venerable traditions of monastic brewing in Germany.
