In the late 1800s, the five points of New York were teeming with vice and poverty. Considered safer to drink than water, beer was essential to life. At the same time, tattooing was finding life aboard navy ships by sailors who had visited the islands. Both beer and tattooing were married in the heart of the Bowery by the underbelly of society.
